5 Signs Your TV Aerial Needs Repair

A weak or damaged TV aerial rarely fails all at once. Usually it starts small — a bit of pixelation here, a missing channel there — before getting worse. Knowing the early signs means you can get it sorted before you lose your picture completely.

1. Pixelated or blocky picture

If your picture regularly breaks into blocks or freezes, especially during wind or rain, that's a classic sign of a weak or unstable aerial signal. It's often caused by a loose connection, a partially damaged aerial, or a cable that's degraded over time.

2. Channels disappearing or re-arranging

If channels you normally watch suddenly vanish, or your channel list re-orders itself, this can point to signal strength issues or a fault that needs a retune — or in some cases, a full aerial replacement.

3. "No signal" or "weak signal" messages

An intermittent or permanent "no signal" message, particularly if it started suddenly, usually means something has physically changed — the aerial has moved, a cable has come loose, or the aerial itself has been damaged.

4. Reception drops after storms or high winds

Aerials are built to withstand UK weather, but years of wind and rain take their toll on brackets, mounts and cabling. If your reception reliably gets worse after a storm, it's worth having the aerial and its fixings checked.
